Panzerkampfwagen V Panther Ausf. A
German medium tank developed after encountering the T-34 on the Eastern Front.
Introduced between 1943 and 1945, Panther entered service as a medium tank in Germany armored formations, built by MAN / Daimler-Benz.
With 75mm KwK 42 L/70, armor up to 80 mm on the front, and a top speed around 55 km/h, this 44.8-ton machine carried both promise and mechanical burden. About 6,000 were produced for a war that demanded constant replacement.
On the battlefield it worked best when armor, infantry, artillery, and recovery units moved as one system. Its legacy is tied to tempo: it could exploit openings quickly, but only while fuel and maintenance kept pace.

The Panther was developed rapidly after German encounters with the T-34, prioritizing armor slope and a high-velocity 75 mm gun. Early production suffered from drivetrain and reliability problems that improved over time.
When mechanically sound, it was one of Germanys most effective mid-war anti-armor platforms at range. Operational impact was reduced by maintenance burden, fuel constraints, and attrition.
